Jet Lag Plans

Greetings --

We have a nine hour flight into Hawaii arriving 7:30 pm on a Thursday.

How should I expect jet lag to be an issue in planning activities for Friday and Saturday night?

Thoughts?

Jet Lag Plans

Jet lag rarely is a problem when going west, the real problem is when returning back home from Hawaii. You should have no problem in getting a good nights rest. You will probably wake up early and ready for plenty of activities on Friday.

Jet Lag Plans

Just factor in your home time, i.e., if Hawai`i is 3 hours behind your time, 9:00pm will feel like 12 midnight to you for the first couple of days. You%26#39;ll think you%26#39;re going to bed early at first, but you%26#39;re really not.

Surprisingly, we woke up the first morning in plenty of time to watch the sunrise. It was around 5am Hawaii Time, but 9am Texas Time. If you sleep in Friday morning, I don%26#39;t think you will have any trouble staying up late on Friday night.

On Maui we take advantage of the time difference. The first morning we go to Haleakala for the sunrise. The first morning your body clock has not adjusted yet so getting up very early (2:30AM)isn%26#39;t too hard. It will be like 7:30 to your body. But you do adjust fairly quickly. Like mentioned before though going home is a different ball game. But if you%26#39;re like so many others you don%26#39;t notice much since your already planning your next visit. lol

I would suggest keeping yourself to your hometown hours so that you don%26#39;t have jet lag on the way home. Everyone says the best snorkeling is in the morning and you ';must'; see the sunrise at Hana or the beach or whatever.

I do this in reverse when going from California to the East Coast. I sleep in really late and stay up really late (I am on vacation after all). Then when I return home, there%26#39;s no readjusting. It will be a new experience to wake up early (HATE waking up), but that%26#39;s my plan for Hawaii. Wake up and snorkel before the winds kick up.

Here is some good info from the British Airways website. Also do their jet lag calculator.

The first few nights in Hawaii we go to bed earlier than at home and are sleepy about 8pm! We usually go to sleep about 9 so we don%26#39;t do much late the first nights.

We love the time difference because we get up so early and the days seem so long.

I agree that I wouldn%26#39;t adjust all the way to Hawaii time because it%26#39;s very hard once you get home.

Wrong-Hawaii is 4 hrs.behind CST.After a 9 hr.flight, and ';gourmet food'; on the plane, check in, go out have a loght dinner, try to adjust to the local time. You will wake up early the following morning-go out, have coffe and rolls at the Starbuck, enjoy,

I was waking up wide awake at around 3-5am for the entire first week we had in Hawaii, then around 6-9am the second week.

I was falling asleep around 5pm-8pm the first week and still couldnt stay up past 10pm the second week!

However its 11 hour difference from the UK! I then had the same problem when I got home.

But you can take advantage of it and get up early as its often the best time to do activities. If it was me I wouldnt have anything planned for that Friday and Saturday night because I would be fast asleep by around 6pm but if you have a much shorter time difference you will probably be perfectly fine.
