Can anyone tell me if this is a good time of year to do this hike? I really want to do it, but i sure would be disapointed if places along the way like infinity pool are flooded.
Any other suggestions for natural pools for swimming on the hana hwy?
pipiwai trail
Well, one, no one should really swim in that pool. It%26#39;s extremely dangerous. Folks have been killed when mauka rains (that they weren%26#39;t aware of) flooded the Pipiwai stream suddenly.
Two, in Hawaii leptospirosis can be found in water contaminated by animal droppings, and you do not want to get mixed up with the likes of this disease. It causes flu-like symptoms and in rare cases death. Even a slight abrasion on your body can allow the infection to get in.
It%26#39;s a great time to do the hike if it hasn%26#39;t rained in the last day or so. The trail can get messy in places if it%26#39;s recently rained really hard (and the boardwalk through the bamboo can get slick). But the falls are the most beautiful this time of year, especially Makahiku about a half-mile in (it%26#39;s often dry in the summer).
