How Early Should We Leave for Honolulu Airport

We will be staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village and leaving there this Saturday for a 10 am flight to Maui. We have ground transportation scheduled, but wondered how much time we should allow for travel, and getting through security. Thank you for your help.

How Early Should We Leave for Honolulu Airport

Which airline are you flying with? I%26#39;ve noticed that this makes a big difference. I%26#39;ve flown Hawaiian and if you catch it at a bad time, the lines to check in can be very long, but security has always been quick. I%26#39;ve flown Go also, and since they go through the old interisland terminal, I%26#39;ve never had to wait. I would say 20-30 minutes from HHV to airport.

1/2 hour to drive to the airport + however long your airline recommends you be there for the Maui flight.

simi .... with ground transportation scheduled, most likely with a airport shuttle, you have no choice to wonder how much time you would need and allow yourself for travel to the airport and to check through security. Airport shuttles will pick you up as much as 3 1/2 hours before your flight time, regardless, if you are early or late.

Hawaii%26#39;s interisland airlines request that you check in NLT 1 hour if you have carry ons, 1 1/2 hrs if checking in bags.

With a 10 am flight to Maui and I was not using the airport shuttle, I would leave the hotel NLT 9:30 am.

Hope this helps ....

Sorry, I should have mentioned the airline - we are flying Hawaiian Air. Thanks again.

Honlulu is a big airport and frankly I would not want to miss my flight, if the airlines reccomend two hours then I would be there two hours before flight time.

Just remember, while checking-in early and having to wait at the airport for a couple hours for a flight isn%26#39;t pleasant, it%26#39;s a better option than missing the flight.

I would go with 1 1/2 to 2, I think at 10 it should not be too busy, most flights are in the 8-9 time or the 12-2 time.

In the past they would just put you on the next flight so it didn%26#39;t really matter too much, but they do not seem to do that anymore.

';With a 10 am flight to Maui ...... I would leave NLT 9:30 am';, I meant it to be NLT 9:00 am. Twenty or so minutes to airport and 90 minutes before boarding.

JUST A NOTE: For all of you boarding Hawaiian Airlines and you do not want to stand in line, go directly to the ';Hawaiian Airlines Drive-Thru'; open from 6 am to 4 pm on the ground level outside the baggage claim area in the ';Permittee Parking'; lot mountain side of the building. Not everyone knows about this convenience check in. Lines are very minimum (I have stand in line at the most three people) and if you driving your own or a rental car, you may leave the car where you have parked in one of three stalls and go check in without having the security guards tell you to ';move on';. This is one of the highlights for me using Hawaiian on my trips to the mainland. Sorry, no international check in%26#39;s.

Giv%26#39;um a try ......

Hi Islakane

Thanks for this hint...but is it only for trips to the mainland? We are flying Hawaiian Air to Maui at 10:00 on a Monday morning. Can we still use this nice line?

Thanks.

Print your boarding passes at the Hilton. Most decent hotels will do that for you now for free; if not buy time in the business center if it has a printer and do it the day before. Be sure to indicate your checked bags if it asks. We printed our interisland passes on Hawaiian and then just had to check the bags...shorter line. And we were ';checked in'; well before the flight :-)
