We are thinking about staying in the Kaanapali/Lahaina area instead of Wailea area where is a 200-250/night place to stay right on the beach. Where do you recommend we are looking at December of this year so the whales should be around as well.

Hi again,
Looking at the whales on the beach while you walk along the beach path in Kaanapali is awesome! You can hear the oohs and has as people stop and look.
The cheapest budget hotel is the Kaanapali beach hotel. Then there is the Whaler right next door. They are on the Kaanapali beach path near Whalers village. That is where all of the restaurants are. In that area those are the 2 cheapest places to stay. They get good reviews. Some of the reviews are somewhat mixed but all reviews are even for the top hotels.
Then there are cheaper condos further North called Kaanapali but not on the same path with Whalers village. One of the places we stayed along with the Hyatt and grand Wailea is the Mahana. IT is right on the beach. But not the Kaanapali beach path near Whalers village.
Others will have more sugegstions.

The Whaler and the Kaanapali Beach Hotel are good suggestions. For your price point you could get a studio unit with kitchen at the Whaler. At the Kaanapali beach hotel you%26#39;ll get a standard hotel room. Both good choices. The pool at the Whaler is smaller but warmer.
There is also the Maui Kaanapali Villas 2 hotels down from Black Rock on a gorgeous beach. You can still walk to the main stretch of Kaanapali Beach from here. They have a new main pool.
YEs, looking at the whales from the beach is fantastic.
