Should we rent a car for a day on Oahu?

We are flying over on a ';hopper'; to tour Pearl Harbor from the Big Island. They%26#39;re will be 6 of us - 4 adults, 2 kids. We are thinking about renting a van for the day. Are the buses easy to figure out? How far is Pearl harbor from the airport?

Should we rent a car for a day on Oahu?

Renting a van sounds like a great plan for the day. If you only have one day, you will see so much more of Oahu with your own transportation.

Pearl Harbor is not too far from the airport, I am not sure exactly, but perhaps a 10 minute drive? (Dusty would know better).

How many hours do you have? If you go straight to Pearl Harbor, then you could drive from there around to the North Shore and the Windward side. Some beautiful spots to see. Waimea Bay, Kailua Bay, Waimanalo Beach, Hanuama Bay, the North Shore, just to name a few.

Obviously Waikiki is a place to visit too. Crazy and fun, I love it :)

Best rent a van, should be fun. The Bus is convenient but you do not have time to waste so rent the van. How much time do you have on Oahu? if you can squeeze in a trip to the North Shore that would be a fun trip. Parking in Wakiki is very limited so not recommended.

Pearl Harbour is not so far from the airport. Try to get there early, if you want to visit other locations on Oahu.

Rent a mini-van. Even in one day you can see much of Oahu with a vehicle.

USS Arizona Memorial is less than 10 minutes from the airport. Take H-1 West toward Waianae. Take the exit to USS Arizona Memorial. Note: This is not the Pearl Harbor exit, but the one right after the Pearl Harbor exit.

After USS Arizona tour, you can see much of Honolulu including National Cemetery of the Pacific, Chinatown, Aloha Tower, drive through historic area including Iolani Palace, drive through Ala Moana Beach Park %26amp; Waikiki. Stop at lookouts on Diamond Head Road near the lighthouse.

Drive around Diamond Head. If you have time you can climb Diamond Head (takes a little over an hour roundtrip) or just drive into the crater %26amp; back out again.

If you want to see rural Oahu, then take one of the two driving tours on this list instead of a Honolulu tour:

Rent the car! Watch the ';hoppers'; they often get in too late for tickets to the Arizona...hours in line is not what you want, that said you may already have your tickets through the company. Also a car is the best way to see the Punchbowl (cemetary of the Pacific) buses don%26#39;t even go there and in my mind it is one of the best places, with best views in Honolulu.

North shore...stop for shave ice at Matzimotos in Halaiva!

Where is best place in Waikiki to rent a car for the day. Would like to pick it up early and return it late same day. Prefer convertible.

Staying at Marriott - Thanks!!!

When we stayed at the Hyatt Regency they

had at least one car rental company on site.

In Waikiki there%26#39;s Budget, Dollar, Thrifty,

and Alamo.

There are two more on Ala Moana Blvd.

Here is a link for rental cars in Waikiki:

Bobemac - I was looking for the rental car momma link but could not find it. I have used it in Florida for rentals and always got a good deal.

Thanks.
