Vegetarian Options in Kona?

We%26#39;ll be in Kona for 6 days at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort %26amp; Spa.

Can anyone recommend good vegetarian options in the area? We%26#39;re not vegan or interested in typical bland vegetarian meals. We%26#39;re interested in good meals -- they don%26#39;t necessarily have to be at fancy restaurants, the food just has to be good!

Thanks!

You are up in S. Koahala, about 45-60 minutes from Kailua-Kona. So that is a long drive for dinner. Gallery Restaurant in Mauna Lani Resort is good Cantonese and has vegetarian dishes.

Vegetarian Options in Kona?

that diet is totaly not here....and in the resorts totaly not there....there will be one item in each restauraunt of a vegi nature...and itwill only be there because they feel they have to........bland and marginal at best........Hawaii is a pork.beef.fish place.

nearest options will be O%26#39;s in Kona a 2 hr drive rt

Well, the main staple here is two scoops rice, one scoop mac salad and some kind of (greasy) meat alongside, so this is not a paradise for vegans/vegetarians. Kona Healthways has a small cafe inside and you can get take-out there too.

There%26#39;s some confusion here, as you can see.

You will NOT be in Kona, according to where you%26#39;re staying, but you might be planning on spending your time in the Kona area, we can%26#39;t tell from your post.

Waikoloa is not Kona.

So does knowing that change your question?

Local style restaurants do not at all cater to vegetarians. If you don%26#39;t eat fish or meat you%26#39;re stuck with side dishes, salads.

Pizza places -- will give you options.

Thai food should give you options.

Mexican food, typical options.

Most hotel/resort ';fancy'; restaurants will offer a vegetarian entree or two, and I think they%26#39;re actually you%26#39;re only option for getting something ';interesting.';

What would be a typical dish you%26#39;d like to see? (name a few and that would help)

When you are in Kona, Kona Brewing Company has really great salads and vegetarian Pizza options. Their menu is online so you can check it out. Nice outdoor(no view) seating area.

to reiterate...there is nothing on this whole island that even marginal...suggest you stay in your condo and dook, as the diet here is the total oppsite.

If the food is even marginal...count your blessings

The health food stores usually have great sandwiches that are very vegie. In our area, Anuenue Natural Foods in Ocean View is an absolutely great place for a ready made vegie sandwich. Much of the produce they use is local. You can be in and out of there in 5 minutes with a healthy alternative. In Kona, the health food store by Safeway is a good option. Hilo has Natural Foods (?) by Borders and they do a lot of other stuff including hot foods. What I have had there has been good. I had something at the health food store on Front Street and it was good too. These places almost always keep it fresh made daily

Almost forgot, was in Kona and ate at Sue%26#39;s Thai Kitchen. It was good. A very large vegie menu. Almost everything they make can be vegie.

all these suggestions....are nice but all the places from healthfood take out to Thai etc...are all an hours drive from your hotel

Dan%26#39;s right -- ';in the area'; I would go to Cafe Pesto in Kawaihae and try the Thai restaurant in Queen%26#39;s Restaurant.

I think Merriman%26#39;s Market Cafe right there at the King%26#39;s Shops has to be your best option for a really good meal. I think they ought to be able to come up with something yummy, as it is a second restaurant for one of the most innovative chefs on the island (not his main venue, which is in Waimea).

Also stop by Roys in King Shops ... even though fish and meat will be center stage, no doubt they do offer a vegetarian entree. This is getting into the fine dining league.

Also for fine dining, the Hilton%26#39;s Donatoni. I%26#39;ve never been to an Italian restaurant where they didn%26#39;t offer a veggie pasta.
