Mauna Lani vs. Marriott

Is the Mauna Lani worth $140.00 more per night for the same type room? (upper floor ocean view)

Mauna Lani vs. Marriott

The Mauna Lani is worth $1,400,000.00 more than the Marriott here, which is the worst Marriott in the chain!

Mauna Lani vs. Marriott

Only you know if the differences are %26#39;worth it%26#39; to you. I%26#39;d say not if it meant you had to akimp on food, cut your trip short, worry about gas costs (you will drive a lot on this island), or not be able to take a snorkel boat trip or helicopter flight that you want to do.

Read the reviews for both and look carefully at the travelers%26#39; photos (not the ones the hotel puts up). If you have specific questions, then ask those.

I am no expert, but I definitely dug around on TA for tips %26amp; I asked questions. We had booked a condo, then reconsidered - frankly it didn%26#39;t feel right. Looked into more condos, then I started looking all over the place.

However, when I finally dove into Mauna Lani%26#39;s website I was a gonner. I read and I researched, read some more - done deal - I informed hubby that this was where we were staying. He just kissed me and that was that.

The Mauna Lani is not in the thick of things, the grounds are lovely, the beach is beautiful, and for us it just felt right.

Last week another TA poster offered this: panaviz1.com/customers/…index.html

Mariott is a corporate conglomerate with hotels worldwide. Corporations put food on my table and pay my mortgage, but Mauna Lani is a one of a kind. They are not only stewards to the history, the land and the people, I liked that they don%26#39;t slap you with extra fees. For us it was a no brainer, but I know how we vacation and we don%26#39;t require an ocean view room - will spend most of the day at the beach or exploring and when its dark its dark and nothing to see anyway.

Everyone is different - I applaud people%26#39;s differences, but I also know that when I go to Hawaii I go for Hawaii, not just a resort. Not just a view. It%26#39;s a feeling and when returning from a vacation there I like to nurse it for many weeks afterwards. We went so far as to completely rearrange our schedule in order to observe some things there, music and %26#39;talk story%26#39; and I look forward to getting acquainted with every inch of the grounds there.

Will you be doing activities every day?

Living in Portland you have many beaches not far away, many resorts and fine hotels within your grasp. We live not far to the north of you, I adore my tall Douglas fir trees and thick growth of blackberries and salal - but are you a city person or a suburbanite, country or high rise resident? Where would you be most comfortable?

It all depends on what you like to do, what you expect to get out of your vacation. Only you can answer that. However you have definitely come to the right place and the folks here on TA are a wellspring of information. I nod a grateful Mahalo them all.

beautifully put ...

I can%26#39;t say if the room category itself is so much better, but the resort is in a whole different class. As was said, it depends on who you are, what you like, and how much you can afford.

I myself can never afford the nicest places, but if I had the money to pay the difference I would choose the Mauna Lani, whereas for me the Four Seasons is just too much money for a night ... I am not capable of enjoying a room THAT much compared to what else I could get for $800 and up, so only if I were wealthy would I stay there, but to each their own choices!

That%26#39;s like asking if there%26#39;s that much of a difference between a McDonald%26#39;s hamburger and a kobe steak at Cut.

YES it%26#39;s worth $140 more per night. The Marriot is a Motel 6 compared to the Mauna Lani.

KK, I challenege you to stay at the Four Seasons and not enjoy it. I think it%26#39;s physically impossible :-)

Shea, I%26#39;m sure I would enjoy it if someone else were paying for it, but at my income level and that room cost, I couldn%26#39;t!
