Kauai Florist

I will be getting married on Kauai in May of 2009. I have called and e-mailed different florists and they charge so much $$$$$$ for a bridal bouquet that I have decided I will make my own. Does anyone know of anywhere that I could buy single flowers besides the florists? I have certain ones in mind...

Also, does anyone have any experience with any of the florists there? How were they (besides pricey)?

You can get flowers at Costco and Safeway.

Kauai Florist

You could wait until you get there and go to one of the Sunshine markets and buy your flowers there. Unless you have your mind set on imported flowers, the farmers will be selling the same stuff as the florists but fresher and cheaper. I don%26#39;t have the link handy but you can do a search for ';Kauai, Sunshine markets'; and the county web page listing days and times should come up. I do know that Mondays its on in Koloa at noon and Thursdays in Hanapepe at 3pm.

Flowers available the last time I checked were orchids, gingers, bird of paradise, %26amp; heliconias. Not sure how much the orchids were but the other tropicals were $3 and up for a bunch.

There%26#39;s always Costco too.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

In May most of our familiar flowers should be back in bloom - plumeria, tuberose, etc. -- while you can certainly buy roses, and maybe tuberose bunches at Costco, as well as the imported purple orchid leis

(they actually come from Indonesia!) they won%26#39;t have a good selection of local flowers there. However their roses are wonderful.

I understand your concern about florist prices - but a good place to check that is well-known locally for leis and who might have a list of loose flower suppliers is San%26#39;s Flowers - right across from the Kaua%26#39;i Community College, and next to Hanalima Baking -- it used to be People%26#39;s Market and I believe all the same suppliers are being used by the new owner -- their prices are very inexpensive and they will have lots of local flowers that you might not ordinarily have at the big florists.

Sunshine Markets vary widely with which ones carry flowers - some are really aimed at supplying local folks with produce -- your best bet for one that would have lots of cut flowers would be the Koloa one on Monday at noon at Anne Knudsen Ball Park on Maluhia Road just outside Old Koloa Town. Since this market caters to the resort crowd, they always have tons of cut flowers, leis, etc.

Hope any of this helps!

Malama Pono,

Janet
