Hi guys! Going to Kona in a couple weeks (yeh!) Can anyone adivse me as to the quality of the tap water there? Thanks!

The water quality on the BI is very good.

One can check by watershed for contaminants and monitoring violations. One will note the wetter east side has many more violations than the dry west side, for obvious reasons. As long as one obtains their water from a public source (or filtered catchement system) it will be safe.

It probably tastes better than SF tap water, and as bathing and cooking water it is perfectly fine.

However, I don%26#39;t drink the tap water straight because I don%26#39;t like the taste of bleach in my water. I didn%26#39;t drink it in California either. Filtering helps with the taste.

I would not advise drinking any catchment water just because you%26#39;re not in a position to evaluate the purification method, but you would only run into catchment if you stay in a rural area.

that%26#39;s funny, I read quality to mean safe to drink, KK read it to be how good it is (tastes, in this case). I guess I don%26#39;t mind the Hilo side tap water, but I don%26#39;t like the west side water%26#39;s taste.

I still drink it when dining out, for example. %26lt;shrug%26gt; it isn%26#39;t as bad as the SF area water, IIRC.

Mine is a rather special case, I have health conditions that make me more sensitive to water quality. So any feedback is helpful. I can always filter if I need to. Thanks all.

I%26#39;d suggest you drink bottled water then. The stores are well stocked with both purified and spring water.

There are two issues with any tap water. One is the quality of the water as provided by, in this case, the County. Second is what%26#39;s going on with the plumbing, how old is it, what kind of pipes, any lead, any corrosion, etc. etc..

Hawaii County water in the Kohala resorts and in Kailua-Kona tastes better than Arlington County water! I have to be careful about water and have NEVER had a problem from drinking county water. I don%26#39;t even brush my teeth with tap water in Paris, despite the long TA threads on how great it is :-).

But just pick up some bottled water at a grocery store for your room and travels and I *think* you can get it in most restaurants. Never have seen itbut did not look....

the water is totaly fine......its former rain...and I have never in my life used bottled water....which I consider a total waste and all it is is filtered tap water.....I mean people are paying more for water than sodas and gasoline.....biggest scam in history....making people fearful of the water they drink...in fact 60 min did a thing that showed that that over time ';bottled'; water can lead to health problems...
