North or South shore in August?

Thanks again for everyones help but im still undecided on where to stay. Why is the north shore better in the summer how is it better then the south? Im going in the middle of august. Please help me out one more time.

North or South shore in August?

The north shore is generally regarded as the more beautiful side of the island, with lush tropical forests and mountains. In summer the best beaches there have excellent snorkeling and the surf is calmer than in winter. It can also be a bit cooler. The south is more arid and can be warmer in summer with rougher surf conditions. This reverses in the winter, when the north is rainier and sometimes has very dangerous surf conditions.

If I were going in August, I would definitely head to the north shore for these reasons. I also personally like the atmosphere better there -- it is quieter, more laid back and at least to me, has a more Hawaiian feel.

Our first two times in Kauai we stayed on the east shore because we thought it would be more convenient to tour the entire island. But now we%26#39;re hooked on the north shore in the summer for all the reasons kimocat mentioned. If we want to go to the west (Waimea Canyon) or south, we just make a day trip of it. But when we were there last year I think we only went east as far as Kapaa/Lihue and only did that 2 days during our 2 week stay (once for a dinner with other TA members).

The north shore is beautiful and in the summer the beaches are great for snorkeling and swimming. You can also take part in other activities such as ziplining, helicopter tours and boat tours without leaving the north shore. Hanalei, and to a lesser extent, Princville, have a number of restaurants and shops.

I know you will find some people who prefer the south, too, but it seems the majority of people prefer the north in the summer.

For perfect snorkeling you%26#39;ll want to be on the North Shore. The surf is calmer for these activities. There are so many beaches to explore you will never feel like people are on top of you (except maybe Ke%26#39;e around 9 am when everyone%26#39;s trying to park to hike the trail) The North Shore is truly magical. You won%26#39;t regret it.
