Does Hawaii have a state lottery?

No. Las Vegas being a favorite vacation spot may have something to do with this lack.

really dont think so --oregon is closer to nevada then hawaii is and we have casinos, lottery and scratch off tix as well as on line keno --gambling coming out the kazoo

When it comes to great paces to gamble I always have trouble deciding between Oregon and Las Vegas. And I bet the fact that Oregon is 150 miles closer to Hawaii than Nevada makes a big difference to people who live in Hawaii !! That must be five or ten minutes by air !

Lougee. PZP is correct, and making a local joke...

Surveys in the islands have shown that a contributing reason for why ';gaming'; is not supported for legalization is that many local housewives, for whom Vegas is their favorite destination, do not want to lose their trips to the mainland.

They fear if gambling is made available in-state, their hubbies will hang out at Hawaii casinos and not take them to Vegas.

Its never been shown that a lottery would have that impact: however, and they are considered and rejected by the State legislature on a regular basis.

The greater concern is the ';opening the floodgates'; issue, as Hawaii is one of only two states without any form of gambling (and the other Utah even has ';Dinner Bingo';). Also, there is concern over what it could mean for any future Hawaiian lands settlement.

thanks amberlu --- misunderstood the hawaii/las vegas post --- didnt think it referred to travel from hawaii to lv for gambline -- read it as a strictly geographic response and hence my comment about oregon and its closeness to lv
