Kauai Budget Car rental

I rented a car from Budget at the Lihue airport for a 6 day stay--this is the only way to get around the island if you are not in a tour group. The roads have a lot of potholes, especially off the main road around the island. On the third day, after driving north to Princeville, I kept hearing a strange sound from the tires, but could find nothing visually wrong. Finally, it got louder, and I pulled off the road and saw one of the tires was flat. I called the Budget emergency number and was told I could change the tire and return the car! Senior citizen alert! Never changed a tire in my life. So the Budget person asked if I had AAA. Yes. ';Well, you should call them, they are cheaper than we are.'; I thought they helped out in an emergency. How wrong I was. So I called AAA, they eventually found someone on the island, who eventually showed up and did the job. I took the car back to the airport to get the donut tire car replaced, and was told by the woman who said she was the manager, that since the car had 2/3 tank of gas, they would keep that, and give me another car and charge again for the gas, since I had chosen the full tank option. That really made me mad. A couple of days later when I turned the car back in, the clerk told me I would not be charged again for another tank of gas. So, wrong info first time, and change the tire yourself. My friends cannot believe this is the way Budget left me hanging in an emergency. Don%26#39;t know if other rental companies have other more kind policies about flat tires. The woman even told me I must have driven through potholes (hello, I was on Kauai). However, the tire had a puncture which looked like it was hit by a bullet! No idea what that was! Postscript: I sent an email to Budget and yesterday they apologized ';the responsible manager has been contacted to prevent any recurrence. '; And they gave me a 10% refund of the rental fee. But they did not say what their flat tire policy is, so next time I rent a car, I will ask first!
