Luau in Kauai

So, can anyone tell me who really does have the best luau on Kauai?

Luau in Kauai

I have read lots of posts who say Smith%26#39;s Luau is the best. http://www.smithskauai.com./

Luau in Kauai

I agree that SMITH%26#39;S is good..

Another vote for Smith%26#39;s.

Everything I have seen about Smith%26#39;s makes me think it is touristy? Is that the case? But, I guess all Luau%26#39;s are touristy, right?

What do you think about the Luau at The Princeville Resort?

My thought exactly. I had a luau booked, until yesterday. My wife and I decided to forgo the luau and instead take the kids to a real nice dinner like Tidepools.

We got back yesterday from two weeks on the north shore; our 14th trip to Kauai in the last 10 years (restaurant report to come in a few days). This year, we went to our first luau, at Smith%26#39;s -- and we had a blast. They were very efficient in moving the crowd through the grounds and the buffet line, and the show was enjoyable. The drinks were free-flowing (they even served good Scotch -- J%26amp;B). Yes, it was touristy, but I can%26#39;t imagine a commercial luau that isn%26#39;t. Plus, the fact that this is a family-run Kauai business seemed to make things friendly.

wyrman - we were on the verge of booking a luau too - but decided against it due to the touristy-factor. At this point in my life, I%26#39;ve ';been there, done that'; with those touristy things (did a luau in Disney World - good show but it felt like I was at a big Bat/Bar Mitzvah or wedding)... so many other wonderful things to see and do on Kauai that are more appealing to us... different strokes for different folks ;-)

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

While certainly all of our commercial lu%26#39;aus are just that - commercial lu%26#39;aus - the one that I consider the least ';touristy'; and most authentic (certainly the most Kaua%26#39;i-style IMO) is Smith%26#39;s -- they have been doing the lua%26#39;u for over 40 years at the same location - Smith%26#39;s Tropical Paradise - they are a long-time kama%26#39;aina family that truly has the ';aloha spirit'; and who share it with their guests.

My vote is for Smith%26#39;s.

If you have never done a luau I recommend it. Smith%26#39;s does the best one in my opinion. Princeville%26#39;s is terrible. Plastic blow up junk. I have not done any on the South Shore but a few threads have mentioned they enjoyed the Sheratons.

We loved Smith%26#39;s luau - enjoyed it so much the first time, we did it again last year when we were in Kauai again. I have been to one on Maui as well, but that felt like a slick Hollywood production compared to Smith%26#39;s. The Smith%26#39;s is down home . . . feels more like you are part of the family in some ways . . . and I enjoyed the gardens and imu ceremony as well as the dancing and food. :)
