We%26#39;ll be going to Kauai at the end of the month for the first time (32 years old, 10 year anniversary). We have seen so many things to do, and are interested in them all but don%26#39;t want to spend too much money. We%26#39;ll be there for four five nights. Some of the things that we%26#39;ve seen so far are:
Zipline tours
Snuba diving
Horseback riding
Helicopter or Airplane tours
ATV tours
Where can I find these activities cheap? What prices can I expect? Are any of them too much hype and not enough fun? What other activites are fun to do? Do we need to reserve these activities in advance (is it a problem if it rains)?
Thanks for any advice.
What are the best, cheapest, adventures?
Go to hawaiiwebdesign.com for discounts. It lists all the prices and discounted prices.
Helicopter tours are very $$$$ but so worth it.
I do the horseback riding often but could skip it for other things to do. I think the ATV%26#39;S and Ziplining are a blast. Haven%26#39;t done snuba but I have heard it is over rated. I would just snorkel. The only other tour I would have you consider is the Na Pali Coast boats out of Pt Allen.
Don%26#39;t forget to visit the canyon if you%26#39;ve never been to Kauai and if staying on the South Shore drive to Hanalei for the day. Lots to see and do on the way up and won%26#39;t cost you much.
Have fun and happy anniversary.
What are the best, cheapest, adventures?
if you%26#39;ve the time to spend on a timeshare presentation you can get 2 for 1 on activities.
aloha , supe !
Dave is right on, if you qualify, you might want to do a time share presentation, and get a two for one, or at least % 100.00 or so off. It can vary.
Just some suggestions from having been around the island and activities for some time.
Obviously use the time share for the most expensive thing that you are going to do...especially if you can wrangle a two for one.
Check Brenneckes activity desk, in poipu. They may help you out with the top of the line helo rides with a time share discount 2 for 1 helo tours. ( top companies ). They were working with the new Marriot Waiohai, and it was a class operation. There are other activity booths all over the island...just do some research on what helo companies they use.
Ziplines are fairly reasonable, just book them early as they fill up very quickly.
SNUBA: Whew....you can have a much better experience at Lawai Beach snorkeling on your own. We see the snuba classes, and have observed them from under water, and it is an all time goat rope. You are tethered together with air hoses all over the place, and most people not knowing anything about the ocean, or what is happening. Total mess !
Lawai in Poipu Area: ( aka '; Beach House '; ): Enter at the white sandy area, NOT over the rocks ( dark area ), and go out to the bommies ( coral heads ), and be free to fin slowly and explore. Best on the south shore.
-------------------------------------------------
CJM Stables: have some farily inexpensive rides, they have several different rides at different prices.
Check out the Ultimate Kauai Guide Book for a what they offer, or call them at 808-742-6096. We see them riding the coastal trail most times we hike there.
-------------------------------------------------
There are many things that you can have a great time out free or inexpensively.
Solo Kayak the Wailua river, and hike to beautiful secret falls for a dip and a bring you own picnic lunch.

If the helo flight does not come about, you can enjoy a cirlce island tour in a new G-8 Airvan with AIR VENTURES....out of Lihue Aiport and about
$ 140.00 per person. Nearly half off what a highly recommended helo company charges. Highly recommend.
-----------------------------------------------------
No charge for: Hiking the trails or driving to the lookouts. Taking photos at spouting horn, or walking and playing at Maha%26#39;ulepu Beach.
How about a nice picnic bbq at Poipu Beach park after a fun day at the beach, snorkeling, or swimming, or boogie boarding at Brenneckes Beach.
--------------------------------------------------
Drive up north, stopping at Opeakea falls for photos and then on to Kiluea Light House, and further on to Hanalei Town, and the end of the northshore road, to snorkel or sun at Ke%26#39;e beach.
---------------------------------------------------
Things to do on Kauai are never ending, just select what appeals to you. Study your guide book, and you will find what you like.

soupe !
That was suposed to be $ 100.00 off , not one hundred percent off, Missed it by one key.
Different activiy outlets have different contracts with the various activities. Some require a combo income of $ 85,000 annualy, own your own home, etc.
Others less.
Some are class operations, and others less so.
We usually just ponied up the bags of shells, and spent our precious island time be active each day.
Your call.

I agree with the previous post about snuba. It is not worth the time or money.
Also, if you do want to spend the time head I would highly recommend Ke%26#39;e beach. The water is very clear and snorkeling is great. Also you would have the opportunity to climb up the Napali coast. The trail begins near Ke%26#39;e beach and you only need to go a mile or so to have amazing views of the untamed coastline.
My advice is go early. It gets crowded and parking gets tough.
Aloha!! Some of the best things on Kauai are free - my favorite activity is snorkeling. Other than the initial investment in gear, it%26#39;s free. And while I agree with the previous poster that Ke%26#39;e beach is a great snorkeling beach, it%26#39;s usually only good during the summer months. While there can be calm days on the Northshore in the winter time, it%26#39;s usually not - surf condtions are too rough. Since you are coming there soon, I would plan to snorkel on the South side of the island where the water is calm. You can always ask about local beach conditions when you arrive on Kauai. Have a wonderful time!! :)
Awesome! Thank you so much for your input. I%26#39;ll start re-planning some of my ideas now. I was a little iffy on the snuba thing, so thanks especially for that advice.
We just got back from seven spectacular days in Kauai and spent very little money on ';activities';. We rented a car for $148 including taxes/fees, spent about $100 on groceries, and $40 on a weekly snorkel gear rental for two. In the evenings we poured over ';The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook'; (you MUST have this!!) to decide what we wanted to do the next day, and every morning we got up, packed a lunch, grabbed our stuff, and hit the road. We initially thought it would be fun to zipline or do a boat tour of the Na Pali coast, etc, but we found we were having a blast doing all of the things which are free : )
I also noticed on our last day that if we had rented snorkel gear from Snorkel Bob%26#39;s (various locations across the island), the weekly rental rate would have been $9 each, and they have masks for people who wear glasses.
Hope you have fun!
I think the best value paid activity was kayaking the Wailua for $50.
But honestly, I am really cheap, but I wouldn%26#39;t blink at forking out $200/person again for the open doors helicopter ride. Go with Interisland and you don%26#39;t have to worry about finding the best deal.....everyone pays the exact same amount.
And I third/fourth the notion that Snuba at Lawai is worthless. A snorkel works just as well if not better.
