Since I can have my vacations only in august, I must start to plan my trips well in advance.
This year I would like to visit Hawaii again - I was already in Hawaii in november, but too many years ago. August doesn%26#39;t look to me the best period of the year, nevertheless now it is my one option.
Can anybody give me some hints of Hawaii in that period such: weather, crowd, must-not-do (if any), better area to visit an so on?
I apologize for the long question and thank everybody in advance.

August in Hawaii?
You are not starting too early on your planning. August is a pretty busy time in Hawaii. The weather can get pretty warm in August so I would recommend getting AC wherever you stay. I would recommend all the same sorts of activities that people post on TA throughout the year. There really isn%26#39;t much seasonality to the activities - other than the big surf on the north shore is not so big in the summer months and the whales have left.
Just enjoy.
August in Hawaii?
Many schools start back up in August now, so the later in the month you can go would be better for less crowds.
I%26#39;ve been to Maui in August and didn%26#39;t find it hotter than any other visit. We had A/C but never needed to turn it on...
MauiGrl4 and Kitty55, many thanks for your hints.
Seasonality and schools vacation period actually were two of my major concerns.
I am planning to go to Hawaii after staying a few days in sfo to visit friends. So far my first choice is Maui, and I will try to stretch my work schedule to go there more or less in the second half of august.
I am already checking packages from tour operators, airline carriers, hotel chains and so on... sounds good or ';self-made'; packages are more advisable?

I have been to Hawaii two tiomes and it always was in Ausust!
Weather was perfect each time, not too hot or too windy.
It also was not too crowded - it always depends on the area you are staying in.
if you mean the Island of Hawaii, then that is the hottest and most humid time of the year....Air Cond. is required Day temps will be 86-87 but feel like 95. Night temps will be 78 and feel like 80. There will ne no trade winds or breezes and not much rain. Ocean is 84 degrees
Best diving and snorkeling are August-to -October
August is the second highest number of visitors and it will be pretty busy.
For activites..hotels etc. use the Left menu and then use the search function on specifics
In August skip the convertible. You%26#39;ll leave the top up with the a/c on.
Thanks to everybody for your infos:
actually crowd scares me more than hot weather. The harder suggestion to follow will be the one to skip the convertible.
Do you think that other islands (i.e. Maui, Kauai,...) may be more quiet in that period (august... yes, this IS a silly question!) and have a milder weather?

As the northernmost island Kaua`i will have cooler weather, especially on the north shore. It%26#39;s one of the least commercialized of the island and has a rural feeling. In August you%26#39;ll have fine swimming and snorkeling on the north shore, and plenty of other outdoor activities all around the island. Kaua`i tends to be less crowded and less expensive than the other islands.
As you make your decision you may want to post to specific forums. This forum is for the ISLAND of Hawai`i (also called the Big Island) not the entire state.
Kauai would be a good choice to avoid crowds!
Many thanks to everybody. I will check with other forums and I will be back for sure with more specific questions.
