Things to do on Kauai

My new wife and I are staying at the Four Seasons, Maui for a week. We are both in our early 30%26#39;s and very active. We heard that Kauai has some sites that you can%26#39;t miss while you are in Hawaii. We were considering staying in Kauai for a couple days and doing some hiking and site seeing. We will be getting plenty of lounging in Maui and wanted to see for a first timer to Hawaii, should we make the effort to fly over or just use Maui as our home base. If we should go, what suggestions are there where we stay that is closest to the rainforest, hiking, zip lines, etc. Thanks.

Things to do on Kauai

Aloha! I would highly recommend staying on Kauai for at least a few days or a full week if you can do it - it%26#39;s gorgeous!! Kauai is a perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts - so much you can see and do here!! Tons of hiking . . . but so much more. Kauai is the only island with rivers to kayak, the Waimea canyon ';the Grand Canyon'; of the Pacific, Kokee State park, and a law the no building can be taller than a coconut tree, so nothing to mar the tropical view. Also, the only island without the mongoose, so more native birds than the other islands. It%26#39;s a perfect honeymoon destination, though it is more rural and quieter than Maui.

Check out this site for photos - they will send you a free booklet, too: www.kauaidiscovery.com. I would also highly recommend getting a copy of the Ultimate Kauai Revealed - excellent details - will really be a help to you, as well as hanging out here on the forum - good luck to you!! :)

Although I think you%26#39;d love Kauai, I%26#39;m not sure it%26#39;s really worth making the trip for just a day or two. You figure you%26#39;ll spend most of a day packing and traveling at each end of the trip. To me, if all you have is a week, I%26#39;d stay in one place and come back some other time when you can spend at least a week in Kauai.

I did not know this. But it makes sense. I always figured that Kauai had more birds than Maui because it was more lushly tropical and birds like the shelter and food offered by the foilage.
