Puka-dogs

Yesterday on the Travel channel I saw a segment about Puka dogs(Hot-dogs) on Kauai. Does anyone know if they can be found on any of the other islands?

Thanks.

Puka-dogs

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Nope - Puka Dogs is located at the Po%26#39;ipu Shopping Village here on Kaua%26#39;i and nowhere else.

There are a couple of looong threads on just this place -- pretty much you either love it or hate it! It is in my opinion - way overpriced.

Funny to think they are still running that same ';Puka Dog'; segment over the past two years. For most folks, it is a one-time thing ';to do';. I know of no other location than Poipu.

According to their website there is one on Oahu.

I guess I am one who loves them. Especially the bun!

Go Blue :-(

To the two Michiganians:

Whatcha do is this...get over to Hamtramck for good Polish sausage, slather it with a mix of mayo and pickled jalapeno slices, top with mango, pineapple or papaya jam, or combinations of same, and then lay it all to rest in a toasted thick French roll bun. Saves the airfare and comes close enough.

They are good but we would share the next time. The fresh squeezed lemonade is really good. I thought i heard they were opening on

Oahu.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I hadn%26#39;t heard that this place opened up another store on O%26#39;ahu -- but here it is:

Waikiki Town Center

2301 Kuhio Avenue # 2

HONOLULU/ OAHU / HAWAII 96815

Phone: 808 924-7887

I guess if you will pay $6 or $7 for a hot dog here -- you%26#39;ll do the same on O%26#39;ahu -- plus there are tons more visitors -- I%26#39;m sure the owners see $$$$.

What I want to know if who the heck do they know at the Travel Channel that they keep that darn ';Hot Dog Paradise'; program running for years now? It has been at least 3-4 years now!

%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Whatcha do is this...get over to Hamtramck for good Polish sausage,

LOL How do you know about Hamtramck?? best perogi%26#39;s around haahaa - gotta have that with your Polish Sausage here in Michigan - but do you prefer fresh or smoked that is the big question?

I just find the place unique (Puka Dog) I am not overly crazy about the sauces, but the dogs and buns are good. I will have to suggest to them in Feb. that they should look into selling perogi%26#39;s too - Hey maybe they can hire me, made plenty in my day. :)

The Travel Channel also keeps running for:

Hilton Turtle Bay (Hasn鈥檛 been a Hilton for a long time)

Flumin the Ditch (closed after last years big quake)

Henry Clay鈥檚 restaurant in The Hotel Lanai (Henry Clay sold it and it no longer carries his name)

I am sure there are others as their programs age.

Yes the Travel Channel does need some fresh, new Hawaii shows. I just had never seen the Puka Dog one. Amazing I missed it.

DH works in Hamtramck and sometimes brings home carry out from Polonia. Wonderful food. In Feb., he brings home Paczkis(sp)....so good!

How about a Puka Polish Dog??

Thanks for the info on the Oahu location.

I think puka dogs are great. I%26#39;ve only taken one person there who didn%26#39;t like them. As usual, it was the same thing I%26#39;ve heard here, that the sauces were too strong. If one thinks they%26#39;re overpriced, well just don%26#39;t go. I don%26#39;t think most travellers would find them overpriced though when you just compare it to the alternatives. The cost of restaurants and grocery ingredients to prepare a meal is more than this. And these dogs ARE the size of a meal almost. So I%26#39;d say , looking at it from a traveller%26#39;s perspective, not a bad deal at all.
