We are planning a trip to the big Island in April. We are contemplating on staying at a condo: The Ridge at Waiulaula at Mauna Kea vs. a beautiful home on the Kohala Ranch. What do you think? What is the construction like at the Mauna Kea now? Is it loud?
Thanks
Mauna Kea condo vs. Kohala Ranch home
I would stay at the Mauna Kea. You will be in a resort environment and you can use the shuttle to go over to the Prince if you want to. Kohala Ranch is more isolated and higher elevation too.
Mauna Kea condo vs. Kohala Ranch home
Kohala Ranch has beautiful homes but is also a dry dusty area except for the top, which is colder. It goes all the way from near sea level to near 3000 feet elevation, so I would need an address to guess at the climate there.
I was told the construction at Mauna Kea would be quite loud, by the people who work there, but I haven%26#39;t heard it for myself, nor do I know how close the condo would be. Waiulaula area is north of the hotel, and it%26#39;s the southern part of the hotel that was damaged.
Are they the same price, and do they both have their own pools?
I wouldn%26#39;t stay at Kohala Ranch without a pool, BUT be aware that unheated pools are frigid ... so if a pool is part of the attraction, find out what temp it%26#39;s kept at.
Kohala Ranch is quite remote, you would have to drive downhill to the highway then south to get to a beach. SO if being near the wate ris important, not the place. Good high-elevation views of the water, true.
Don;t know about the construction at Mauna Kea. But surely there are other condos in your price range at Mauna Lani, for example. The high end ones are walking sitance to the beaches there. Or Kolea at Waikoloa.
