Big Island vs. Maui

6 days with 2 teenage girls and mom and dad. What is the best location for activites + beautiful scenery and best sandy beaches?

The two teenage girls part of your post makes me say you%26#39;ll want Maui. The six days part, too. Big Island is B-I-G, with few beaches, little choice of lodgings outside of the NW sector, and almost no shopping. You%26#39;ll spend a lot of time in the car, driving to see all of Big Island. If you are interested in the volcano...right now there is so much VOG that people are not allowed out of their cars on part of the volcano park road.

Maui is small, tropical, lots of beaches, shopping, widest choice of lodgings outside of Honolulu. I%26#39;d choose West Maui with the teens over quieter South Maui. Do you want hotel or condo?

Given the time and travel party, I agree... Maui sounds like your better choice. The Big Island is more of a two week type of trip, and for folks who don%26#39;t mind the extra driving (and who love the diversity).
