airfare options

I keep checking daily for flights and it seems like they are going up. We are traveling in July and leaving from Phx. with one stop either LA or Honolulu. Should I hold off? Will these prices go down?

We are going in August. I wrote last month that I was shocked at the prices being $900 from LAX. I waited to see if flights would be going down, into Lihue, and last week they went up to $1,000 for the same flight.

I decided to book with AAA Pleasant Holidays, for a package deal with flight, hotel and car, and it priced out much better. $750 non-stop LAX United into Lihue. Avoiding changing planes in Honolulu.

As I was watching the seats disapear on the flights we wanted, and 6 seats together, I decided to just book the trip. You can bet I%26#39;ll be watching each month as it gets closer to summer, what the prices will be doing. I%26#39;ve learned, they probably won%26#39;t go down. Supply and demand.

I was also dismayed by the prices from Lax to Lihue. Then I went to airtohawaii.com last weekend and booked 3 seats on delta, non-stop, in July for about 1700.00. I don%26#39;t know if I would have done better by waiting, but I%26#39;m happy

oil is $93/bbl. don%26#39;t get too cute if you are trying to come in summer (peak period) unless you don%26#39;t care if you come or not.

Dave is very correct...not only is oil 40% more than an year ago, but the airlines are cutting seats to hawaii so that every flight is filled to the max.

Also the number of discount seats is way reduced..supply and demand

Acording to my information, the airlines view hawaii as luxury travel...and see people willing to spend higher sume to go there.

The fares you saw last year will NEVER return, and between June 15 and Sept 15, you can expect fares to be top dollar, the same with easter, christmas, and any other holiday period.

Low fares, that is lower fares are best found april to June and mid Sept to mid Nov.

For summer....from the west coast anything under 600 is great...from the midwest/east 850

Our flights from New Orleans to Oakland (Southwest) and Oakland to Kauai (ATA) were much less than that.

I was worried about waiting any longer

Hawaiidan is absolutely correct. Fares for the summer will never go down for flights after after June 15th. You might be a special fare for the fall. Grab what you can get now.

Well I guess I%26#39;ll go ahead and book my flight too. Last year I booked late March for prime time June for around $630 on Hawaiian, same flight is $930 now. Big difference! After I booked last year they dropped for a bit right after Easter.

With our points and all we%26#39;ll still be paying what we paid last year, but I was really hop[ing to pay less this year.

What gets me is according to Orbitz there is still plenty of seats left on our flights.

orbits is owned by the airlines....I suspect the seats available...are gross within a class...and not all discount seats... all being at the same rate.

Going direct to the airlines has always netted me a lesser fare than any ';travel site'; same with hotels.....and I use the phone most of the time

I only use Orbitz to see what seats are still available. I book directly with the airlines.

Hawaiidan, so there could be even more seats available then what Orbitz is showing? It%26#39;s all quite confusing for me.

You%26#39;d think with all this reccession talk the airlines would hurting for luxury travel. I guess we can still find money to go on vacation...lol.

When we started looking and preparing for our trip right after Christmas fare was decent price - we are going in May - however by the time we got our act together and figured out when/where etc the fare had gone up almost two hundred dollars.

Finders keepers and I grabbed it - for us it merely meant an additional picnic on island........ no way were we going to miss out on going by trying to wait for better -

it could get worse instead of better!
