What is the driving distance between the Honolulu and North Shore? Is it possible to leave Honolulu in the morning, do things in the North Shore and come back at night? Or will it be too long a trip, meaning I should stay overnight in the North Shore?
Distance between North Shore and Honolulu
You can make the ';Greater Circle Island'; drive from Waikiki, through Central Oahu, along the North Shore, down the Windward coast of the island, and back over the Koolau Mountains to Honolulu/Waikiki in about 2.5 hours (depending upon traffic) with no stops.
Or, you can go in the reverse direction in about the same amount of time.
So, even with stops at the beaches, scenic points, lunch and a few visitor attractions, it can easily be accomplished in a one day tour. If you stop at the Polynesian Cultural Center, it can turn into a much longer day %26amp; evening.

You can easily tour the North Shore %26amp; get back to Honolulu the same day.
Lots of info including a couple of driving tours:

Yes, you can easily do the North Shore in a day. But if you want to have fun, plan on making a whole day trip. Go early in the morning come back in the evening. There are restaurants in Haleiwa and shaved ice, etc. Should be a great fun trip. Totally different from Waikiki.
