Just got home from a wonderful time in kihie, stayed at sugar beach resort anyone with questions , i%26#39;ll try to answer.
just back from maui
What did you do? Where did you eat?
just back from maui
caught up on the jet lag JAN 29-FEB 14
Staying at sugar beach was ok. The renos where going on in the mill building so did not bother us to much as we were in the plantation side, last couple of days the CHIPPING hammers was a constant noise if laying around pool.
Wdrove all around the island, west side, hana,up country, makena, and haleakala.
The best way to go around the west side is starting from Kahana vs Wailuku. there is only 8 miles of scary road and you are on it before you have time to turn around
When you get to the bottom of a ravin near Kahakuloa Head be sure to stop at Lorraine%26#39;s for a shave ice, a nice break and very friendly hosts.(get her to show you her alligator)
This road a bit scary at times, but reminded us of the road to Hana 30 years ago. The road to Hana has really overgrown now compared to last visit 30years ago and a lot of views have dissapeared. The smoked pulled pork on the way to Hana is really good, with good buys in the adjoining shop.
Toured the Lavender Farm, suprising all the stuff you can make from lavender. Might not have found this place with out the gps, as we had a convoy going there after other couples found out we typed in their address.
Had lunch at Kula Lodge was great with a view to die for.
Did a snorkel trip with the Four Winds II, so breezy that we had to go to the Coral Gardens, and even then the anchor rope broke on a big gust, lots of sea smoke going on then.Winds calmed down and turned in to good trip, with extra time for snorkling because it is closer. Did the SNUBA thing which is different, will do it again with more confidence next time.
Ioa Valley was nice as the top was clear the day we went.
Did the Buzz%26#39;s Wharf thing. Does not rate very high with me or our friends Over priced in our opinion.
Good times at the PuPu lounge and Bada Bings.
Starting to think about a trip in the near future.
Did you get into South Kihei and Wailea for sightseeing and beaches? Where do you think you%26#39;d like to stay next time? (By then the renovations should be finished at Sugar Beach.)
I had a question about the road to Hana, not sure if you have the answer or not.
We will be going next week, i know that the road is closed just past the seven pools, but is it possible to park and walk through the road closure? Only reason i ask is because alelele falls is about a mile past the road closure.
Also, Did you go to the Ahihi kinau area and la perouse bay in S Maui at all?

We just did a bit of sight seeing around Wailea, but no beaches. The noses get pretty high in that area for me.
As of now I would stay at SBR again, it has eveything you want, minus the people. The beach got better everyday recovering from the big storm and the snorkling was good enough for me with lots of differnet fish. Even had a seal taking lunch just off shore a couple of times while we where there.Great beach for walking as you can go miles either direction. When highway construction is done it will be asnap to get there and sightsee from there. It would be nice if the condos got a good cleaning more often because of people who don%26#39;t care. Our couch had a musty smell to it but febreeze stopped that. Had ocean front on the 5 floor so view was fantastic. LOts of time spent with binocs just watching.

Our trip to Hana ended at Hana because of heavy rain.20 some inches of rain while we where there so we started to think about washouts on the way back, so we turned around
we went as far as perouse bay but hiked no farther, poor choice of shoes, when we left the condo we juststarted to drive not thinking of where we were going.
PIcked up a Maui Revealed at the Ocean Center towards the end of trip, it would have been handy just for the maps which are more detailed then anything we had. Some comments in the book are ok, but a person should use common sense with some of their ideas
