Should I avoid Alamo at OGG?

I have read some negative reviews about Alamo in Hawaii.

I was wondering if anyone could offer an opinion.

I have frequent rental memberships at National, Avis, Budget etc...

However Alamo rates can beat anything they offer by $20 at KOA and $50 at OGG for the same class vehicle.

I have tried many different discount codes, as well as discount on-line agencies and get roughly the same results.

My concerns about Alamo are comments about huge lines to pick up vehicles, and poor condition of cars.

I am wondering if I am best to pay a little more, if you think the service would be better at the others? I really don%26#39;t mind if I am going to save an hour in line etc...

Or if they are all the same, I may as well save an extra $70

Would the Emerald Club service be any better at National? All National%26#39;s seem to all be attached to Alamo these days anyhow, do they keep their Emerals club reservations seperate in Hawaii?

Thanks for any advice.

We use Alamo every time we go to Maui and always have decent service. I think you might have lines there depending on when your flight arrives. I would assume there are lines at the other rental agencies.

I%26#39;ve also found myself in long lines at OGG Alamo starting my vacation in a bad mood. One thing I%26#39;ve done before is leave the family to wait for the luggage, while I head straight for the shuttle.

Now I see that if you pre-pay at Alamo you can use online check in and skip the rental counter. This service is available on Maui, though the self-service kiosk is not. That%26#39;s what I%26#39;m going to do next trip I think.

I had a bad experience with National at HNL. They said I had damage to the vehicle when I%26#39;m sure that I didn%26#39;t. It%26#39;s a long story, but I ended up paying half of their demand. An internet search turned up lots of stories with the same details as mine. Needless to say, I will never use National again.

I%26#39;m pretty sure that National and Alamo are the same company, but I haven%26#39;t had any trouble with Alamo, outside of the long lines for check in.

We used Alamo. No problems,no line up either. Maby it was the time of night. I did however see kiosks there for self serve and they appeared to be working. I just went up to the counter as there was no line. Car was clean and new.

the self serve kiosk was available for use this past november.

I used Emerald Club there both places last month. Saved time--did not have to go inside. At KOA they have an ';Emerald Table'; outside :-)

Yes, now they do have better service for Emerald. Not like at SFO or something, but faster. You get to pick the car, etc. I%26#39;ve used National in Hawaii for almost 20 years, nver a problem. My spouse drives free and now does not have to come sign the contract (he gets luggage, I get car and pick him up).

Alamo usually is cheapest so they get more people, longer ines. They are sister companies but National has its own vans and site.

We arrived at OGG on Feb 03/08 at 240pm.We used the self check machine (only one person ahead in line) A great staff member was there to help out everyone.

We prepaid online using the ';Name your price option and got a convertible for $20 a day';.

We got to chose our car in the parking lot and the overall experience was quick and painless.
