Mid-Way - Where to Stay

We will be going to Kauai middle of October 2008. we are looking for a good place to stay for a week in between North and south shore. We would prefer a nice condo facing the beach. We would consider a B %26amp; B. Prefer quiet with not alot of kids.

Any suggestions.

Mid-Way - Where to Stay

Mid-way between north and south actually gives you many options. October should be fairly quiet with most kids in school. On Kauai, to find a condo facing the ocean you will either have to choose between north and south or stay eastside on a non-swimmable beach.

Islander on the Beach is lovely. Waipouli Beach Resort. Many condos up and down that area. Princeville has gobs of nice condos, but on a bluff not on beach, though you can find some amazing views.

I%26#39;m sure lots of folks will have better ideas on the B%26amp;B idea, as well as whether you want more southerly at that time. First time we went to Kauai was in October and we stayed at Islander - gorgeous sunrises every day. Most units there are, I believe, studios. It%26#39;s a smallish property with good location, but there are several in that area.

Mid-Way - Where to Stay

We just got back this morning - stayed at the Islander on the Beach. It was a perfect location. Our room was right in front of the beach - watched the sunrise from our bed! Nice, laid back atmosphere. Don%26#39;t think we saw any kids there. I know everyone says it%26#39;s not a swimmable beach, but there were times when the ocean wasn%26#39;t too rough and we saw several people in the ocean. We rented through a private owner for a really great price at KauaiOceanFront dot net. It%26#39;s nothing fancy, but pleasant and adequate, nice pool and hot tub area, great restaurant next door, nice shopping area to walk to. The Beachboy is right next door, and that looked very nice too, if you can get in there. (it was booked up for our trip). Definitely check that out too.

Kaua`i Coast Resort at the Beachboy is VERY nice, but not cheap, IME. We love Kapa`a Sands, but it may be too late to get in there. Islander is nice, but in my opinion the rooms are very cramped for two people, and you don%26#39;t have a full kitchen.

If you%26#39;re willing to stay in a decent, but not fancy, mid-range condo, look at Pono Kai. Even the 2BR oceanfronts are very affordable. I have a list of owners who rent; PM me if you want it.

PZP - the funny thing about the Islander is that I had read that the room is very small and cramped. So I was expecting a very small, cramped room, and when I got there I was so pleasantly surprised with the amount of room that we actually had!

A couple of other reasonably priced options on the east shore include Lae Nani and Kaha Lani. We have stayed at both places multiple times. The units vary, of course, but most are updated and quite comfortable. Lae Nani is close to Coconut Marketplace mall ( a block or so). Kaha Lani is a little more remote, but just down the beach from Lydgate Park and next to the Wailua Golf Course.

I think that Islander on the Beach is an OK place, but the units are much smaller than the two I mentioned and don%26#39;t have full kitchens.

We lucked out and bought somebody%26#39;s timeshare week at the Kauai Coast Resort. It averaged out to ~$160/night for an oceanfront 1BR unit, including taxes. I can send you the sites for doing that, if you message me. Keep in mind that it will have to be a full week. For our return, we were thinking of the same unit at the Islander on the Beach (mentioned above). From our walks through the grounds of both, I can say that both were very quiet, and I think we (at 25) were the youngest people by about 30 years.

We loved the central Kapaa/Lihue location for basing our stay. Just try to avoid traveling with the rush hour flow from Lihue-Kapaa.
