Maui Kamaole Vs. Kamaole Sands?

Two families new to Maui with ages ranging from 17 to 65 going in July, 2008 to attend a wedding. Which condo complex would best suit in your opinion? Love the idea of low density, with MK, but with teenagers we%26#39;re wondering about any noise tolerance problems at respective sites. Any help from those in the know is appreciated.

Maui Kamaole Vs. Kamaole Sands?

One of our guests wrote a glowing report of our condo and Maui Kamaole as a whole, but...they were unhappy that their children (under 10) were made to stop playing Marco Polo in the lower pool. I don%26#39;t know how %26#39;noisy%26#39; your teens are or what the situation is at Kamaole Sands. (I know that *I* don%26#39;t want to listen to endless Marco Polo myself! LOL) We%26#39;ve had lots of families with young kids and teens; this was the only guest to make such a comment.

Maui Kamaole IS nicer than Kam Sands -- newer, larger condos, less density, more landscaping -- pricier to buy into as well as more costly to rent. That said, they are both fine and have good locations.

Thanks for your input and the info ChiSue. They%26#39;re not my teenagers either, but just thought I%26#39;d try to checkout some potential problem areas before making a decision that may affect others - didn%26#39;t want the youngsters ';shussed'; repeatedly, but also didn%26#39;t want them to interfere with others trying to enjoy their piece of paradise!!

Maybe one of the older young-uns could drive them over to the east side to try windsurfing. They%26#39;ll be too tired to yell by the end of the day. With so much beach around the teens will probably want to see and be seen at the Kamaole beach parks. Actually, they would most enjoy the scene around Lahaina and Kaanapali in West Maui.

We stayed at KS about 5 years ago and kids in the pool there were also asked to stop playing Marco Polo! So I%26#39;m not sure that it%26#39;s any more noise-tolerant than MK.

We were happy in a 1BR/2BA upstairs unit in bldg. 10. Since many of the units are independently owned (I used VRBO) the quality and furnishings can vary greatly. The resort is spread out and nicely lanscaped and we never felt it was overcrowded (even in the summer).

Have a great trip!

We have stayed at both properties several times and would say that Maui Kamaole is a better facility, by far.

Kamaole Sands is an older property with only one pool and hot tub. There used to be a beach restaurant for breakfast, lunch and poolside drinks but it was closed last time we were there.

The rooms at Kamaole Sands are located in apartment style buildings with 3 floors. You will have to take stairs or elevators and access your room from outdoor hallways. View over the inner courtyard are nice as the grounds are very lovely.

Maui Kamaole is a newer property just just before Wailea. It has two pool areas both with hot tubs. The pool at the back of the resort has a nice waterfall. We enjoyed going to either pool and the beach for variety each day. Both pool areas have kitchen facilities. We booked it one night to have a potluck BBQ with four families. No one seem concerned that we were having a party, although I believe we had to be gone by 9 or 10 pm when the pool closed. This would be standard at any condo pool.

The rooms at Maui Kamaole are either main floor or 2nd floor in a townhouse style, where you walk up one flight of stairs directly into your condo if you are on the second floor. We stayed in a condo that could accommodate 6 people comfortably. It had two large bedrooms, both with king size beds and two private bathrooms and a sofa bed.

No condo pool I am aware of in Maui will allow beach toys or games like Marco Polo, which shouldn%26#39;t be a problem as everyone in your group is older.

However, teenagers or young adults may not like the peace and quiet that settles in on Maui. In general, Maui is not a nightlife type of place, so most people are inside by 10 pm or talking quietly on balconies. Noise after that time would probably not be tolerated unless you stayed at a hotel with more public places.

How about Hale Kamaole? Actually, we%26#39;re getting married in Maui November 2008 and I am looking for condos at that end of Kihei... so it%26#39;s nice to hear feedback about Maui Kam and Kam Sands. How do those two compare with Hale Kamaole which is between the two?

Hale Kamaole has gotten some less than enthusiastic reviews on this forum -- downgraded for lack of cleanliness. However, since all condos everywhere are owned by seperate owners, maybe we just ran into a spate of bad housekeeping!

Maui Kamaole IS the superior property. A glance at the property listings at Maui Realtors shows that they are larger and sell for more. The location on a small hillside also provides more units with good ocean views without being practically IN the street. (I%26#39;m trying to be objective, but in fairness must add that we own a condo at MK.)

Thanks to all who were kind enough to respond. It made our decision so much easier. We%26#39;ve decided to go with the Maui Kamaole complex based upon your good recommendations. We know South Kihei/Wailea area may be a little quiet for the teens in our group, but we%26#39;ll try to provide enough other distractions during their stay to compensate.

We hate the idea of stairs, especially for our older family members, but we%26#39;re considering two, 2 bedroom units at MK. One unit is located mid property and the other, #H-207, has had some updating and appears to have a killer view from pictures. Some posters in other reviews have cautioned against renting any condo that is this close to Kihei Road due to excessive noise, but we love the idea of an ocean view for our first ever visit, if it%26#39;s tolerable. What do those who are familiar with the placement of this building think? Thanks again for your valuable help.

MK is a very nice property - though IMO the noise level of south Kihei Rd would be negligible, definitely the quiter end of Kihei - right on the edge of Wailea.

ChiSue has good taste!

We took two younger teens and they absolutely loved it! There were many families there and all ages. Great grounds to stroll and units themselves spacious and comfortable. We would definitely consider staying there again.

I think it would appeal to all age groups.

My only quibble with H-207 is that it faces due West, and you will be here in July. This s wonderful for viewing the sunset, but that only lasts a few minutes, while the condo will be baking from noon on. The ';H'; buildings are very far back from Kihei Road. (Most of the other properties to the north start right AT the sidewalk along Kihei Road.)

The 2-BRs At Maui Kamaole are accessed by one flight of external stairs to reach the %26#39;first floor%26#39;, then another flight up to the loft BR and 2nd bathroom, which are directly under the roof. The openness of the loft configuration makes it difficult to cool that level because even with three A/C units. Cool air settles.

When we considered buying a 2 BR, I planned to build a door at the top of the stairs and enclose the %26#39;loft%26#39; with solid walls -- to keep the cool upstairs, and to provide more privacy. In the end we decided we didn%26#39;t want two flights of stairs and the required carpeting. So...we bought a 1 BR with a NW exposure, gutted it and tiled the floor.

We have never regretted buying here. The property is beautifully designed and kept. It%26#39;s well located, yet quiet.
