Picking up at Day 5- This is road to Hana day. We start off at 7:30 am and finish at 6:30 pm. Obviously a long trip but I am going to try to shorten this some.
We skipped the twins falls and drove to our first visible fall from the road. I didnt catch the name, but there were a couple of cars there and a small trail lead from the road along side the curb. Hubby and I wanted a good picture so we followed this trail. It had big boulders and fallen trees with pools of water here and there. The rocks slippery, with moss and slime. The trees much the same. Once we reached the big waterfall area, we saw the longer waterfall further in back of it. Too slippery for me,so hubby pushed on. While he was forging thru, I managed to slip one foot into those pools of water and shortly there after the second one went in too.
Christened both feet in our first waterfall (area)
Too, too many waterfalls to mention along the way,and lots easily visible from the road.
No more forging !
We went to the Ke%26#39;anae penninsula to take pictures and it started to rain. Jumped bck in car and stopped for some hot coffee and hot banana bread. Made it to black sand beach, my favourite picture perfect beach. I had packed a lunch and we dined in the park. The views amazing.I must add that there are some crazy people out there ??? I saw a guy, perched on a rock,at the highest point of the cliff.Just standing there. Waves crashing up against the cliffs, spraying water, and people standing knee deep in water,(with cameras) getting pummelled by 8ft waves....crazy ! lol
We stopped at this sideroad stand Nahiku Gallery, and bought dichroic glass earrings by an artist named Marian Fielson. What is that kind of glass you ask...lol well its pretty !! lol You will see this artists work all over the islands. Many plates and shapes but budget breakers for me, so I got the pretty earrings..lol
We went as far as the road would take us,up to the very last fruit stand. We stopped at lots of falls, bridges, beaches and Hana too. My husband loved the drive and we laughed at every ';Road Narrows'; sign...
Back to the Hyatt to pick up our tickets to the 9:00 star gazing show and then over to Whalers Village. We got ourselves a pager for the restaurant Leilanis on the beach and waited.Took a look at the stores and shops (naturally) lol and saw a little hula show. I hate to say this, but I thought the young girls (who looked like tweens)should not be wearing coconut bras. My opinion and I dont want to cause an uproar...it just seemed wrong to me.
Anyway, we got ourselves a ring side table at the beach bar and ordered 2 burgers,1 fries and 1 hula pie. I also had a lava drink and hubby had a beer.Total was $42.03 Really good burgers,Lava drink a brain freeze, and Hula Pie....ok the pie, Big,and very sweet. Two of us didnt get thru a 1/4 of it. Packed it in and went to the Hyatt.
Hyatt, was a very impressive looking hotel. We met ED our navigator who brought us up to the top floor. I really dont want to give anything away here, but will say this. My husband thought I had picked something very gay to do. He said we can look at the stars in our own backyard, yada, yada, yada. We walked out of there, wanting to explore our own science center for more star gazing stuff.
After this first foray into the Whaler Village and surrounding hotel areas, I came away thinking I made the right decision for us by staying in the southern part of Maui.It just felt more laid back to me there.
The End (of day 5)

My Trip Report-Part 3
Agree with you on coconut bras. Cut off at about age 6 or 7. The Hula Pie is toooo much but too good as well. And of course, star gazing is not a gay activity, not that there%26#39;s anything wrong with that. That was a good deal at Leilani%26#39;s. We ate upstairs and didn%26#39;t get our fill of food until the hula pie and we didn%26#39;t order alcohol and ended up spending over $90. You could do much worse.
My Trip Report-Part 3
Thanks Julaf- and as a side note, I certainly wasnt trying to offend anyone with my flippant gay remark. It was more about a feeling then a lifestyle.
