Has anyone stayed in these condos. What are they like and how long does it take to get here from airport?
Prince Kuhio Condos
H Chrystal57 --
We have stayed at Prince Kuhio a couple of times -- last year for 2 weeks and the year before for a month, in different units. Prince Kuhio is an older building that was a hotel turned into condos. There are large one bedroom, small one bedroom and studio units there. PK is across the street from Kuhio Shores, so does not have direct oceanfront views, however many units have a nice partial view of the ocean. There is a pool there, nice tropical garden and a great grill area with both gas and charcoal grills. These condos are a good value for the money. Most units have been updated and are quite comfortable. You are also right across the street from the best snorkeling on the south shore.
The only down side is that there is a lot of connstruction going on directly behind Prince Kuhio right now and will be for the foreseeable future. For that reason, I would stay in the lower numbered units, which are closer to the ocean and farther from the consturction.
If you want to talk about specific units, pm me.
Another complex close to this in price you might check out is Sunset Kahili -- farther away from constuction.
Prince Kuhio Condos
Hi Chrystal57:
We are a Saskatoon couple, returned Feb 14/08 from a four-week stay at Prince Kuhio condos. We had #234, a recently renovated studio near the back of the building. We had our windows open day and night, and while we did hear sounds from the construction, I would not even call it noise; it was never intrusive. In any event, the construction sounds occur only during the day, never at night. We were awakened each morning by the crowing of roosters - not by construction noise.
Prince Kuhio units are individually owned and so vary in style, quality, and amenities. We saw several units, all were very nice. There are 35 reviews on Trip Advisor with info on specific units which should help you choose.
Our unit was beautifully decorated, very well equipped (even had beach chairs and snorkel equipment), and perfectly adequate for two people for a four-week stay. The grounds, pool, barbeque area, and parking all impressed us. The people in the complex (and in the area) were the friendliest and most welcoming we have experienced over several years of winter travelling. We are definitley planning to return to the area and would be thrilled to stay at Prince Kuhio again.
Time from the airport varies by time of day. Allow forty minutes to an hour during morning and afternoon rush hour, but twenty minutes should be adequate at other times.
What did we like? Affordable rates for great accommodations, incredibly beautiful surroundings, nice people, excellent proximity to beach, stores, restaurants, golf, and tourist attractions. What more could one ask from a tourist accommodation.
What did we not like? Having to leave paradise to come home to snowbanks and below zero temperatures. Oh well, summer always comes ....

We have reserved unit 302 for our honeymoon. I has a very nice view and the differnce in rate between Prince Kuhio and Kuhio Shores paid for the convertible for the week! I am glad to hear the drive from he airport is only 20 min at night. We will need to quick shop for diet coke and coffee for the morning!
My wife %26amp; I stayed in a clean, comfortable one bedroom 2nd floor unit (#213) at Prince Kuhio two years ago and liked it fine. The condos are right across the street from The Beach House restaurant (nice fine dinning with great sunset views!) and Lawai beach (excellent for snorkeling at near shore reef; saw lots of fish) and next to Prince Kuhio (PK) park.
Our condo overlooked PK park, facing east with sunrise views as well as having a partial oceanview looking south from the lanai. The grounds had a nice little Koi pond and swimming pool and were lushly landscaped with tropical flowering plants and palms. As mentioned before, the units are individually owned and decor can vary so look at condo pictures on-line when making choices to see how updated the unit is. Note: PK condos are a three story bidg. with NO Elevator/lift, walk Up Only.
As for drive time from the Lihue airport, it%26#39;s only 25-30 mins., unless your doing it around 5 p.m. (rush hour), when it could be 40-45 mins. or so.
Enjoy your trip to paradise... ALOHA!
I was just thinking about the elevator issue. I guess I will add a little stairmaster to my exercise routine. I have been targeting my workouts to hiking and rowing, (and bikini wearing)
