Unique to Kauai?

Our trip to Kauai isn’t until June/July this summer, so I thought I would send my 10 year old nephew sort of a “teaser” about interesting and unusual sights he may see this summer in order to get him even more interested in our trip to Kauai. He has never been to Hawaii, in fact, he’s never been on an airplane, so he is already excited about the trip, but he has no idea what to expect.

Here are a few of the things I’ve come up with...I’d appreciate any help with any amusing/intriguing items to add to my list.

- Chickens on the beach.

- Chickens in the trees eating bananas.

- Chickens crossing the street in the crosswalk.

- A fish that looks as if it was painted by Pablo Picasso.

- A turquoise fish with a beak that looks like a parrot.

- Flying fish.

- A restaurant that serves your dinner on a trash can lid.

and . . . ?

Unique to Kauai?

Hi there! I met your sister the other day and your niece and my son are in the same karate class.... small world.

My kids LOVE the huge frogs in Kauai (not sure if that%26#39;s unique or not) but for a 10 year old, it%26#39;s super cool. Don%26#39;t tell him about the ones flattened on the road, though!

My kids also like to ';pretend'; to hunt chickens (but they never catch them!). Also, burying each other in the sand....

and don%26#39;t forget, Shave Ice!

When are you going again?

Unique to Kauai?

Yes, I heard. How funny!

We are going June 23 - July 7.

1st week in Haena and 2nd week in Hanalei.

My fourth trip to Kauai, but several in my family group have never been - they have little idea what to expect. I%26#39;m so excited to spend two weeks with them in Kauai!

What an awesome idea! Some more (quick) ones....

- Very tasty pork that%26#39;s cooked underground in dirt/sand/leaves

- a potato that%26#39;s bright purple when you open it

- pupus (immature, I know)

- a mountain that looks like King Kong

- Space Shuttle Tracking Center

- Pacific Missile Range Facility (Star Wars!)

- sand that barks at you when you step on it

- a beach made up of broken glass

- rainiest spot on earth

Are you flying United by any chance? They have that ';Halfway to Hawaii'; game which I would have loved as a kid (but I was, and still am, and airplane nerd). You could prep him for that.

What is the trash can lid restaurant? That%26#39;s new to me.

yes please what is the trash can lid restaurant? and being that I am a big kid, where might I see the giant frogs?

Don%26#39;t forget the black and white cardinal.

I%26#39;m talking about the Brazilian cardinal with the red head and black/white body that looks exactly like our cardinal in North America.

Also the near world famous Puka Dog...the totally tubular hot dog.

';Puff the magic dragon that lives by the sea - frolicks in the autumn mist in a land called Hanalei....';

depending on how old your kids are - a funny story that we were told - - since Iniki hit and the chickens have run wild, they are very wild - there is only one way to cook those chickens, you will need two pots - put the chicken in one and cover with water, put a large rock in the other and cover with water - bring to a boil, when the rock is soft the chicken is ready to eat

Also have they seen ';Donavan%26#39;s Reef';?

malawacky

Kauai is the only island with navigable rivers and he can take a trip with you up the wailua on one of Smiths boats, with music , entertainment and get to land and see the fern grotto.

Kauai Toads: You mentioned the cane toads, but be aware that these are poisonous, so no touching. Not the bite, like some would think, but the skin.

The restuaraunt with the trash can lid, also has me wondering where this is.....do you have the name of the place on Kauai ?

What a wonderful for treat for your entire family to be visiting the garden island.

Denny

The restaurant that serves on trash can lids is Tahiti Nui in Hanalei.

An how about those Menehune?
